Learning through real-world experience alone can be a slow process that may never lead to broad knowledge. Traditional educational methods of lecture, discussion, and demonstration do not provide an optimal environment for practical experience. Individuals must be provided the opportunity to practice and experience the learned concepts first-hand. It's more important than ever to choose the type of training that keeps individuals focused, engaged and involved.

Computer simulation is used in many fields of study. While computer simulation may never fully replace live practical training, its role is forecast to become increasingly more important.
A cornerstone of the Justice Institute of British Columbia's (JIBC) educational philosophy is the use of practical, simulation-based learning. The presentation will examine the efficacy of cloud-based simulation training for imparting transferable experiential learning.

Praxis, an on-line, team-based learning system focuses on decision-making simulations. Praxis has evolved into a highly-effective, experiential e-learning solution appropriate for virtually any sector. Praxis is a synchronous system, where participants receive multi-media content that immerses them into a problem-based scenario. Individuals can interact with each other and with the subject matter experts (SME) who control and monitor the delivery of the simulation content. Each decision determines what unfolds next, emulating the consequences in unpredictable, real-life situations. All activities are captured and saved for participants and SMEs to review and learn from. Because it's a cloud-based, Praxis can be delivered at any location there is high speed Internet on standard computers.

An overview and live demonstration of Praxis will be presented.
