Go to most campus websites and typically before too long you can become disoriented and struggle to find out what and where resources and services are located on campus. Insight into curriculum, teaching, tools and research usually require navigation to somewhere else on the website. Through a commission by Emily Carr University’s Student Services department, the campus tour is being reimagined and developed into a new 360 VR Campus Tour experience by Emily Carr University Production Services under the direction of the Teaching + Learning Centre.

Learn how the research and development for this project is defining and augmenting new learning approaches for the university’s studios, labs, facilities, services, departments and communications. This presentation will discuss the stakeholders and partners engaged with the project and the tools, techniques, workflow and lessons learned for developing the project to date. Future research objectives and how the project is being documented as part of an OER Guide for BCcampus, will also be presented.

Participants will be encouraged to discuss best practices and inclusive approaches to a visitor’s first contact with a post-secondary campus to developing accessible wayfinding and situated knowledge areas on campus through immersive media. Additionally, what role can virtual reality, augmented reality and mixed reality play in redefining curriculum or service delivery as an alternative to or through the LMS, Blogs, Wikis or websites? Participants will be able to experience this tour through several Oculus Go VR headsets and through mobile devices.
