As students leverage open educational resources, create personal learning networks and participate in blended and online learning environments they are expected to take on more responsibility for their learning. This provides an opportunity for some students to excel while others who do not have self-directed learning skills find it more challenging.  This interactive session will focus on learning activities that you may embed into your learning environments to enhance student ability to be self-directed and lifelong learners. Participants will have the opportunity to share, discuss, critique and build on what they are already doing in regards to the following four strategies:
Strategy 1: Set clear learning goals to provide vision and direction. (Metacognition)
Strategy 2: Create a plan, monitor, and adjust learning as needed. (Metacognition)
Strategy 3.: Use reflection as a tool to learn a competency, as well as to enhance the way you learn. (Metacognition)
Strategy 4: Adopt a growth mindset in regards to intelligence and all areas of life. (Growth Mindset)

Learning Targets:
1Participants will be able to understand the interconnectedness of metacognition, growth mindset and how each construct can support the ability to be a self-directed and lifelong learner.
2Drawing on one’s own experience and strategies discussed in the workshop, participants will be able to evaluate multiple ways to integrate metacognitive, and growth mindset strategies into their learning environments.
